The "F" word

Fear of the unknown scares the shit out of me sometimes...yet isn't everything unknown until we experience it? So, I have to imagine that the fear isn't really caused by the unknown, the true fear is wondering how I'll handle it once I find it...that's what I have to get rid of...get over.

Just finished reading a book and found this quote... it doesn't necessarily speak to fear but I think it has a lot to say in how we tackle what the world throws our way.

"If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment." Marcus Aurelius

Sometimes I wonder if in order to combat such a strong, universal reaction we must use a strong, selfish emotion to over come it. I often pit the fear of the unknown VS the disappointment of missing out on something potentially amazing.

Fear can be good in some respects. I try to interpret it as a sign that I am becoming something more. It is the part of me that is afraid to change that tries to put doubt in my mind... At least that part of me knows that I am close to outgrowing it.
